Senior Technical Instructor

Programming

As an instructor, Colin taught customer and employee technicians how to use the Siemens Building Automation Systems (BAS) to control the environments of commercial buildings. The one week courses included everything from basic Windows based interface and controls to the complex programming syntaxes used to optimize energy efficiencies or control clean room environments.

Course Development

Colin lead the development and rewriting of course curriculum, providing a better experience for the students and increasing customer participation in the Master Operator and Master Programmer certification programs.

Computer Based Training

Colin learned to use Macromedia and Flash to develop the first computer based training programs released by SBT's Training Department. The programs provided detailed instruction on the more confusing programming syntaxes, allowing technicians to review the material when needed. At the time computer based training was cutting edge and these programs were well received by the field.

Program Manager

Product Development

As a program manager, Colin used Voice of the Customer (VoC) research to set the scope of new product development projects. The Stage-Gate process was used to build the business case, manage the development, and the release of new Hardware, Software, and Firmware products.

Colin was the Program Manager on the original Apogee development program. A complete overhaul of the Building Automation System architecture. A new Windows based graphical user interface with dynamic controls that provided an intuitive interface for facilities maintenance operators. The ability to create a large network of remotely located control panels suitable for very large facilities including Chicago's O'Hare airport, the National Institutes of Health, and college campuses including Texas A&M and the University of New York, Buffalo.
